When Benefit launch a new product, they market the life out of it, but they do it SO well. As a brand, they really know how to sell their products and their latest mascara release is proof of that. The new ‘Roller Lash’ mascara was included as a travel size in last months ‘Elle’ magazine. What a brilliant move, everybody and their dog was talking about it! In line with the rest of Benefit’s range, the mascara comes with eye-catching, lovely packaging and the top of the wand is meant to mimic a plastic hair roller, which is unique and very cute! (Mine is a mini so the wand is different to the full size!)
This mascara is all about curl. The main feature of the ‘Roller Lash’ is the Hook ‘n’ Roll™ brush which is plastic and curved, to really grab onto the lashes, to lift and then curl them. At first look, it could look quite gimmicky, but the design and technology behind this mascara actually works.
The trick to applying this mascara is to get the brush as close to the roots as possible, allowing the brush to hook onto the lashes, then bring the wand to the ends of your eyelashes curling upwards as you go. The picture below shows one eye with the mascara and one without. In just one coat it immediately lengthens and adds curl. I did not curl my lashes beforehand as I wanted to see the effect the mascara had on its own.
It is a very easy to mascara to apply, not too much product comes out on the wand and it isn’t too wet, allowing enough time for you to go in with a second coat before it sets. For me, the ‘Roller Lash’ mascara doesn’t bring enough volume as I would like, but that is purely personal preference. It does what it promises, which is that it lifts and curls. It is meant to hold the curl for 12 hours, according to the Benefit website. Last week I applied the mascara mid-morning and went to sleep with it on that night, it was on my lashes a lot longer than 12 hours. When I woke up the next day I couldn’t believe how well it had held the curl!
Benefit has really pulled it out of the bag with this one. It isn’t the best mascara that I have ever tried and it won’t be one of my favourites, as I like more volume when it comes to mascaras. If you have a problem with getting your eyelashes to curl and for the curl to hold or if you like lengthening and separating mascaras, this one is for you.
