It has been a week since I uploaded my video about my decision to have weight loss surgery. I know there are probably some of you who won’t watch my videos, just as there are those who don’t read my blog. This is a life changing thing which is going to have an incredible impact. For those two reasons, I wanted to put a post together to further talk about the topic and to thank you all.
There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to film and upload that video. I have been thinking about having this surgery for the best part of a year. When doing my own research, I struggled to find other people out there who had had the surgery and had told their story. I wanted to share mine, not only for myself but for anyone else it may help. The response I got was more than I ever expected. You have all been so amazing. The comments and messages I have received have been incredibly overwhelming and in a few cases quite emotional. To any of you who have left a comment or shown me your support I want to say the biggest thank you. The understanding and respect you have shown has been beyond what I could have hoped for. You are a wonderful bunch.
I am booked in to have Gastric Sleeve Surgery on December the 14th, 2016. I have decided to have the surgery to take control of my life whilst I have the opportunity. I have been on diets since I was in high school but the weight never really shifts. For me, this is more about improving my health and lifestyle, both physically and mentally. Of course, I am looking forward to the benefits of weight loss such as being slimmer and feeling confident. However this is about so much more than that. I have gotten to a point lately where it gets me down so much I don’t want to leave the house. This cannot be my life anymore, the impact my weight has on not only me but my family too is preventing me from living my life.
Next year, Tommy and I want to start a family. I want to feel confident as a Mum, be able to run around after my kids. I have never been slim, I can’t remember the last time I was a healthy weight. This surgery is going to change my life and I sincerely believe it will be for the better. The surgery involves having 85% of my stomach removed. Obviously, this means my portion sizes will be reduced but in turn the weight will come off. The gastric sleeve does not do all the work for me, however. I will have to continue eating the right foods in the right quantity, and exercise regularly.
At the moment, every time I eat I feel guilty. I worry that every time I eat just one small piece of chocolate I will gain weight. This issue is a constant thing in my life that I can’t carry around with me anymore. Since booking the surgery, I sometimes sit for a few seconds and wonder if this is too drastic. Have I made the right decision? Then I remember all the reasons I need and want to do this and there is no doubt in my mind. I will still be me, just happier and healthier. People keep telling me I am brave, but I don’t feel it. To me, this isn’t about courage it is just something I need to do.
I will link the video at the bottom of this post so you can understand a little more about the surgery and my reasons for doing it. It is going to be a difficult few months but I am positive it will be worth it. I can’t wait to start this new chapter.
Thank you all again, from the bottom of my heart.
