I feel like I have been away from the blog for a really long time, but I promise I have good reason! You will probably know by now that we have spent the last 7 months renovating a house that we bought last year. We didn’t think it would take as long as it did, and that isn’t because we underestimated the time it would take, it was more a case of, well we might as well do that… and that… and so on. We still have a lot to do, but with any house, it will never really be finished. There are a few bits of woodwork that needs varnishing, carpet that needs laying and what feels like a million boxes to be unpacked, but we are finally in. We spent our first night there last night and it was so lovely to be back in our own bed!
A couple of weeks ago Tommy and I sent out a desperate plea to family members asking for any help they would be able to give to get us moved in yesterday. Thankfully, we have an amazing family who have helped out so much and we wouldn’t have been able to do it without them. My Mum has spent every spare moment she has had helping us, not just unpacking boxes, but actually grafting. We spent every night last week at the house until gone midnight, one night my Mum and I were varnishing floorboards at 1am! I haven’t been on my laptop or phone much so have really gotten behind with everything but it was so important I spent every second getting the house ready. I have cried, laughed and sweated – it has been hard. The number of times I had to remind myself it would be worth it.
We have had family members working on the house from day one, mainly my mum’s fiancee and my sister’s boyfriend and they have gone to such lengths to ensure what we wanted to achieve was done in the most efficient but best way possible. We couldn’t have done it without them, their determination, sheer hard work and attitude was inspiring and I can’t thank them enough.
Tommy has spent so much time and effort planning and working on our home, he has made our vision and dreams come true and I couldn’t have done half of what he has achieved over the last few months. It is something like this, when you are going through a huge change and taking on something so major that really highlights what wonderful people you have around you. I am so lucky to have the family I have. Whether on Tommy’s side or my side, everybody has contributed in some way and we will be forever grateful.
The dogs seem to have settled in already, they know where the back door is to ask to go outside and they slept right through last night without any trouble. You may have to bear with me for a while, in terms of posts and photos, videos etc, but I am hoping to be back on track in no time. Tomorrow’s video is quite an exciting one. Thank you all for your kind words and for being so lovely over the last few months.
Lots of love,
ALF x
