I am not one for New Year’s Resolutions. I never stick to them and I don’t really like the idea of making myself commit to something at the beginning of the year, for the whole year. I know myself, that from the beginning of the year to the end of the year I can change a lot. The resolutions I may make in January may mean something completely different to me in December.
New Year for me isn’t about making resolutions, instead I look back on the year before and think about what I want to do differently the following year. I have thought a little about what changes I want to make and what hopes I have for 2016. Perhaps writing them down and sharing them with you may make them come to fruition a little sooner.
THE BLOG
Obviously, with my blog and YouTube I want to work hard and hopefully see them progress, but I am really going to make a conscious effort this year to read more blogs. I love interacting with other bloggers on Twitter and through blog comments, but I know I don’t do it enough. Last year I met so many lovely, like minded people out there who write fabulous blogs and I want to get to know more of them. If you are reading this and have a blog, please leave me your links!
TAKE CARE OF MYSELF
This is an umbrella term for a lot of things. I always want to lose weight, I am forever on a diet then off a diet, I won’t be the first and definitely not the last to say this. In 2016, I want to shed a few pounds and feel more comfortable in my own skin. I need to change my attitude towards food but it is so hard. In 2015, I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t have days where I left the house feeling unconfident, that I would always make an effort. This made such an incredible difference to my self esteem and I really want to carry this on in 2016! Obviously, I have days wear I wear joggers or PJ’s all day, but when I am out and about I want to look good and feel good about myself.
MAKE THE NEW HOUSE A HOME
The new house has been a long time coming. If you forget the amount of time we spent longing to be back in Blackpool and just take into account how long we have been renovating for, it will be 7 months in a few days. I cannot wait to move in and be surrounded by all of our own things again. I miss our dinner plates, our sofa and cushions. I miss our bed and my dressing table! I am going to put so much time and effort into making sure that once we are in, it is as homely as it can be and a true reflection of the little family that live there.
TAKE MORE PHOTOS
I want to get better with my camera this year. I take photos all day long, but of things that don’t have much substance, a candle or a lipstick for instance. I want to start capturing the things that matter which are around me, places I visit, things I see, people I meet.
DOG WALKING
I want to walk the dogs more. It brings them and myself & Tommy so much joy, it is sad that we don’t do it more often. I want to set aside proper time to enjoy with them and let them explore and run around until their hearts are content. I know I sound daft, but I mean it!
FOCUS ON THOSE WHO MATTER MOST
The last but probably the most important point. I have spent far too much time on people who aren’t willing to invest the time back in me, or Tommy, or people around us. 2016 is going to be the year I develop a tougher skin and focus my time on people who want it, on those who will give it back. I love listening to people tell me about their day, to be a shoulder for someone to cry on, but it can only be a one way street for so long. Life is too precious to worry about those who don’t worry about you.
So, they are my wishes for the year ahead. I am hoping to come back in January 2017 and see how I got on with all of the above. A lot can happen in a year, make yours count!
