The last couple of weeks have all been about the build up of going back to school. Whether you are a long time leaver of school or you are still there, I hope you enjoy this post. If I had the opportunity to go back and sit with my self in a room and say some of the things listed below, I would jump at it.
Here are some things I would tell my high school self…
- You don’t need to have your whole future planned by the time you leave school.
- You won’t like everyone and not everyone will like you but that is okay.
- Friendships you make in school are worth more than you may realise at the time. People will drift apart and you should do all you can to hang on to the good ones.
- It is SO okay to laugh at yourself.
- You will not get to do this again.
- You will change dramatically from your first year to your last. Embrace that.
- The people, (including teachers) you surround yourself with will help shape you into the person you become.
- Teachers are only human – not all of them know what they’re doing!
- Some people aren’t going to enjoy school and will act out. That’s okay too, we aren’t all the same.
- School is a big part of your life but it is also only a short chapter of the life you are going to live.
- P.E. is not for everyone. Don’t beat yourself up because you hate it. Someone higher up has decided you’ve got to do it, so try your best – until you don’t have to do it.
- Boys are not a different species, (although you may beg to differ!). Talk to them!
- Difference in opinion isn’t just found in school, it is a part of life and is perfectly normal.
- Put the turquoise eyeliner away. Lock it in a drawer. Lose the key. Do not repurchase said eyeliner.
- Pay attention to your brows!
- Your rosy red cheeks will fade and be less apparent as you get older. Work on fixing the problem with skincare, rather than covering with makeup.
- You can learn more from your teachers than the subjects they are teaching, listen to them as their advice will stay with you.
- It is worth investing time in people, they will learn to love and respect you.
- Enjoy every second, college isn’t anywhere near as wonderful as high school.
- Ask more questions. Don’t be afraid to raise your hand.
