I very rarely set myself any goals or resolutions for the New Year, but I have decided 2017 is going to be different. About half way through last year, it was almost as if I had woken up in the middle of a mediocre nightmare. Since moving back to Blackpool and taking some time out for myself I noticed myself changing. Changing for the better, but I want to continue to do so in 2017. It dawned on me how gradually, I had been focusing less on the things and worries in life that don’t matter. The difference that little change made to my day to day was mammoth.
Although I had been thinking about making dramatic changes, I’d done nothing about it. Until the end of last year when I had my surgery. To some, it may seem shallow, materialistic and not worth going on about. To me, it was a lifeline. Yes, I spent last year getting to know myself and re-evaluating life. However at the same time, I had gotten so low that I saw no light at the end of the tunnel. Putting on a mask had become second nature. Every mouthful I ate, each time I went to grab a loaf and milk I was so conscious. Conscious of everything and everyone.
I became a hermit and a much lesser version of myself. These two conflicting personas were battling it out every day. One of them had to win and I chose to make a commitment to myself to do better. I knew it would take something drastic, hence having most of my stomach removed. (You can read my gastric sleeve post here.) Since the surgery, I already feel like a new version of myself has come to the surface. The person who has always been inside is being allowed the opportunity to show herself.
2017 therefore, is going to be a year where I do make some wishes and set some goals. I don’t really like the word goals, (#GOALS, #eyeroll) but essentially that is what they are. I want to learn to play piano. To hit 10,000 subscribers on YouTube. I have dreams of working with brands such as ASOS, New Look & Too Faced. I want to get fit and healthy. Not just lose weight, but be able to walk up a flight of stairs without getting breathless. I want to travel and take in every single second. Dog walks, lots and lots of dog walks. I want to make more time for Tommy, spend Sunday mornings in bed with a cuppa, putting the world to rights. I want to take part in volunteer work. I want to make videos and write posts that are more than just beauty and style. I want to make a difference.
Most of all, I want to continue to grow. I honestly believe you can never really live properly until you get to know yourself. Until you are comfortable in your own skin, even if just a little bit. I am working my way towards that. I am making more time for the things that matter.
I know you will reach your goals Amy you are very positive and focussed, I do understand where you were, and am so glad that you are moving on, I love you very much and will be there for you whenever you need me
Love you, Mum
